These levels are dangerously high and unsafe.
Drinking cheap tea is bad for your health as it is to eat junk food.
Cheap Tea Has Fluoride and Pesticides
Most of the teas are not washed and contain pesticide residues. Some brands, including those claimed as organic and free of pesticide, have been found to contain carcinogenic pesticides.
A study published in Food Research International, has found that cheap tea contains enough fluoride to cause many illnesses as kidney problems, bone tooth and even cancer.
In fact, they contain nearly 7 ppm (parts per million), while allowed level is 4 ppm. The fluoride when is accumulated in the body, stays there for years.
How did fluoride get inside the tea?
As it grows, the tea plant store fluoride. The old leaves contain more fluoride. Cheaper tea is often made from these old leaves. Or if they use young leaves, they use the smaller ones which contain more fluoride.
What about decaffeinated tea?
Decaffeinated tea contains more fluoride than caffeinated tea.
So, should we stop drinking tea? Of course not.
• The solution is to buy loose leaves and brew your own tea.
• Stick to white tea because it has the lowest amount of fluoride.
• Buy organic tea, still the methods of cultivation are better and they use purified water for the soil.
