Hyperpigmentation is a common, in most cases a harmless condition in which some areas of skin become darker in color than other parts of the skin. This darkening of the skin occurs when an excess of melanin (a dark pigment that gives the normal color of the skin) forms deposits in the skin. Pregnancy, exposure to sunlight, aging, some diseases or trauma can trigger the overproduction of melanin.

Hyperpigmentation can affect people of any race.
Freckles, stains and age-spots can become darker when skin is exposed in the sun. Harmful ultraviolet rays damage the skin causing a temporary or permanent discoloration. Usually these stains occur on the hands and face, but you can also see them on other parts of the skin that have been exposed to the sun.

Melasma spots usually appear as a result of hormonal changes and during pregnancy and it is called “mask of pregnancy”. The spots are mainly on the face and abdomen. Usually, this disorder disappears after the pregnancy without causing any problems.

You can remove hyperpigmentation naturally with this simple home remedy:

Ingredients:
• 1 tsp. of turmeric powder

Combine the turmeric powder and the lemon juice in order to make a nice paste. Apply this paste on the area of hyperpigmentation and leave it for around 15 minutes to dry. Then wash it with cold water. Repeat this two times a day for as long as you see an improvement. Don’t expose yourself to the sun soon after the treatment.

The lemon has bleaching properties that brightens the skin and the turmeric is a well known part of many beauty treatments in India. It can reduce inflammation and gives the skin glowing effect.
